Description
This cantata recording closes a large gap in the recordings of German sacred music of the Baroque period. Pachelbel was a composer who inherited the polyphonic style of central Germany, remaining close to the style of J.S. Bach's forebears at the same time as he took note of the newest Italian trends. The works recorded here are closely linked to Lutheran chorale melodies; their structure and form show them to be the clearest link possible between the 17th century and Johann Sebastian Bach's first cantatas.
Language
The vocal works sung in German.
